My Studio Garden and the Fairy Garden

Welcome to my little garden.  My studio is located on our 1.25 acre property, and over the years I've added a few roses and the odd plant purloined from other parts of the yard.  Just recently, I indulged my love of fairies, by spending a ridiculous amount of money and beginning a fairy garden. It is coming along nicely, and when all the ground covers grow in, I think it will be very special.  There are still a few things to add and I imagine it will always be a work in progress.  Since many of my floral paintings are taken from my own garden, I thought to share it with you.  I hope you enjoy it.

There is the red door to my studio and the garden in very early spring just as the roses are beginning to leaf.  The purple freesias are just about spent and are starting to fall over.  In the middle is a lace cap hydrangea.  The plan is to try and keep the deer away for the blooming season.

This was taken when the garden was in bloom last year.  The beauty here is Floral Fairytale and is the healthiest rose I've ever seen and also the subject of one of my watercolor paintings by the same name.  That first photo looks very much like the one I painted for my mother, which is also on my florals page and the header for my home page.

These are a couple of photos of this year's garden. (2014)  Ambiance is blooming very well this year and I added a new yellow rose, Julia Child.  It starts out a bright golden yellow and fades to a buttery shade. Just like Julia, adding butter to everything!

The garden is a bit fuller this year, Floral Fairytale is ready to explode and there are some annuals in the foreground.

Voodoo looks healthier than I've ever seen it and my tiny Baby Austin is still going strong. It' like a miniature of Floral Fairytale

Here is the mess my garden was in before Open Studios this year, 2015.  I got tired of weeding constantly, so I gathered flat stones left by the previous owners and placed them on some weed guard. I think it just about killed me but the roses are loving the heat of the stones and I'm loving the absence of a million weeds.

The following photos are a work in progress, namely the building of the Fairy Garden.  It's location is directly across the path from the rose garden.
